Scottish Heart and Arterial Risk Prevention (SHARP) is inviting medical students from Scottish universities to apply for funding through a summer studentship bursary programme.
The aim of this funding is to enable medical students to undertake clinical or pre-clinical research in any area of Cardiovascular Medicine during the summer break, helping them to develop academically and strengthen their career prospects.
A bursary of £1,600 will be awarded to each recipient. While the project duration may extend beyond the summer vacation period, the funding amount per award remains fixed. Scholarships are not intended to cover normal degree courses (e.g., BMSc). For this year (2025), applications for funding ongoing projects that require additional funding will also be accepted.
Students should seek a supervisor and apply jointly, providing a clear outline of the proposed work, timelines, and expected outcomes.

Applications must be completed using the SHARP Summer Studentship Application Form, which can be downloaded from the SHARP website:
This opportunity is open to SHARP members only. To become a member, visit:

Upon completion of the SHARP Summer Studentship, both the supervisor and student are required to submit a brief 250-word report on the project to the SHARP office via email at SHARP@dundee.ac.uk.
Additionally, the student is required to present their research findings at the upcoming annual SHARP meeting.
All outputs from the research must acknowledge SHARP’s role as the funder. Additionally, the SHARP office must be notified of any accepted manuscripts, posters, or presentations arising from the project. Closing date for applications: 17:00, FRIDAY 2nd May 2025
